I work in many types of stone. The traditional white limestone of Bali is termed paliman, it allows for intricate detail in pieces and can be either carved as a one off or I can produce duplicates for large orders. Every piece is hand carved so no one piece is identical. Other stone available, harder more durable limestone from the Kuta area and recently use a light fine grained sandstone from Java. There is also the choice of volcanic rock, this tends to be dark but very durable. I have also carved St Bees Sandstone from the famous St Bees outcrop in the North West of England, this stone often used in buildings is hard and holds lovely detail and the honey colored oolitic limestone from the Cotswold area of South West England.
My ambition is to spend some time in Italy, to learn more about restoration and contemporary carving. |
